Privacy Policy
This page explains what information MatchMyHair collects, why, how long we keep it, and how to ask us to see, change or delete it.
Who we are
MatchMyHair is an Irish hair discovery platform. We decide how your information is used (we are the “data controller”). Contact us any time at MatchMyHair@outlook.com.
The short version: we only collect what we need to match you with the right stylist, we never sell your information, we don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and you can ask us to delete your information at any time.
If you use Get matched (our quizzes)
What we collect: your answers (county, hair type, hair length, the service you're looking for, your hair goals if you write any, and for the bridal quiz your wedding details) and the stylists we matched you with. If you ask us to email you your matches, we also keep your name and email address.
Why: to show you your matches and, if you ask us to, to email them to you. Your name and email are optional. We only collect them if you ask for your matches by email. Our legal basis is that you've asked us to provide this service (and, for the email, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
Matching is automatic: a computer compares your answers with stylists' skills and locations to suggest matches. It doesn't make any decision with legal or similarly significant effects about you. You're always free to choose any stylist.
Health information: please don't include medical details in your answers. If you choose the scalp & hair loss service, we don't store the hair goals you type. We never store details of scalp or hair loss conditions.
How long: up to 12 months, then it's deleted automatically.
If you leave a review
What we collect: your first name, email address, star rating and comment.
Why: your first name, rating and comment are shown on the stylist's profile. Your email address is never shown. We only use it to send you a link to confirm the review is genuine, and to contact you about it if needed. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in publishing genuine, checked reviews to help clients choose.
How long: for as long as the stylist is listed, or until you ask us to remove it.
If you're a hair professional with an account
What we collect: your email address and password (stored securely and scrambled, so nobody, including us, can read it), and everything you add to your profile: name, salon, location, bio, skills, booking link, Instagram handle, photos, videos, reel links and your photo consent (with the date you gave it).
Why: to show your public profile to clients, to let you log in and update it, and to email you when a client clicks to book with you. Your email address is never shown on your profile. Our legal basis is providing the service you signed up for.
Your stats: we count how many times your profile is viewed and shown in results, where views came from, and how many times clients click your booking link, and show those numbers to you and to MatchMyHair.
Booking emails: when a client clicks to book with you, we email you to say a client clicked. We never pass on any client's name, email or other details.
How long: while your account is open. If you close it, we delete your profile, photos and videos within 30 days.
If you're a Future Professional (junior stylist)
Everything above for hair professionals applies, plus your stage of training, salon or academy, cover photo, skills in progress, goals and any model calls you post. We also count how many "I'm interested" requests you receive, and show that number to you and to MatchMyHair.
If you ask to be a hair model
What we collect: when you tap "I'm interested" on a model call, the first name, email, how you'd like to be contacted (email, text, WhatsApp or Instagram), your mobile number or Instagram handle if you choose those and any message you type.
Who sees it: only the Future Professional whose model call it is, on their MatchMyHair account. We send them a short email to say they have a new request; your details are not in that email. Once they contact you, any conversation is between you and them.
How long: we delete your request automatically after 30 days, or sooner if the Future Professional deletes it or you ask us to. Please don't include medical details. Our legal basis is your request.
If you ask us to tell you when a stylist joins
What we collect: your email address, and the service and county you searched for. We never save searches for scalp or hair-loss treatment.
Why: to email you once when a suitable stylist joins, and to see where clients need stylists so we know who to invite. Only MatchMyHair sees this. Our legal basis is your request.
How long: until we've told you, or 12 months at most. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
If you report a profile or model call
We keep the reason and anything you write, plus your email only if you choose to give it so we can reply. Only MatchMyHair sees reports; the person you report never sees who reported them. We keep reports for as long as we need them to deal with the issue, and no longer than 2 years.
Visitor statistics (no cookies)
To understand how the site is used, we count page visits, searches (the service and county chosen), completed quizzes, which stylists were shown in results, profile views (and the kind of page or app the visitor came from, such as search or Instagram) and booking-link clicks. For the first page of a visit we also note how you arrived (for example from Instagram or Google) and your country, which our website host works out without us storing your IP address. These counts are anonymous: we don't use cookies for this, and we don't store names, IP addresses or anything that identifies you. We keep these anonymous counts for up to 2 years.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner. The only cookies we set are the ones needed to keep professionals and MatchMyHair logged in. These are strictly necessary for the log-in to work.
Some stylist profiles show Instagram Reels or TikTok videos. These are played by Instagram or TikTok, who may set their own cookies when you play them. See their privacy policies for details.
Who helps us run the site
We use a small number of trusted services, which only process information on our behalf:
- Supabase: our database, log-ins and photo storage, hosted in the EU (Ireland).
- Resend: sends our emails (quiz matches, review confirmations, booking notifications). Resend is based in the United States.
- Our website host (Cloudflare): serves the website to your browser from a global network.
- Image services: some photos are loaded from Unsplash and from our previous website host (Wix), which see your device's IP address when the image loads, as any website would.
Booking with a stylist happens on the stylist's own booking system (for example Phorest, Fresha or Timely), not on MatchMyHair. Their own privacy policy applies there. We never sell or share your information for marketing.
Information sent outside the EU
Some of these services are based in, or use, servers outside the European Economic Area (for example in the United States). When that happens, your information is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Keeping your information safe
Our website uses an encrypted connection (https). Professional passwords are scrambled so they can't be read. Our database only lets each professional see and change their own profile, reviewers' email addresses are never shown publicly, and only MatchMyHair's administrator can see quiz answers and reviews waiting to be checked.
Your rights
Under data protection law (GDPR) you can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your information
- stop using it, or give you a copy to take elsewhere
Just email MatchMyHair@outlook.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Age
MatchMyHair is for people aged 16 and over. If you're under 16, please don't send us any personal information.
Changes
If we change how we use information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. See also our Terms & Conditions.
